Casa Familia, Inc., the sponsor of the Village of Casa Familia – the first affordable housing community for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in Miami-Dade County, today announced Dr. Anay Abraham as Executive Director. Her appointment by the Board of Directors is on the cusp of the groundbreaking of the Village of Casa Familia on nine acres of land in Kendall thanks to a generous ground lease by Miami-Dade County, Department of Community Action and Human Services.
“Dr. Abraham brings significant advocacy, strategic planning and government relations experience to Casa Familia,” said Marc Plonskier, chair of Casa Familia, Inc. “Casa Familia is fortunate to benefit from her skill set as we embark on the creation of a sustainable, long-term affordable housing community designed specifically to meet the needs of individuals with IDD.”
Dr. Abraham is the first Executive Director of Casa Familia, Inc. which was established in 2015 by a group of concerned parents out of fear for the uncertain futures of their adult children with IDD. She served on Casa Familia’s Board of Directors from 2019 until she recently stepped down to assume her new role. Dr. Abraham is a Trustee of Miami Dade College.
Prior to joining Casa Familia, Dr. Abraham served as the Managing Director of Development for City Year Miami where she was responsible for the statewide fundraising efforts of the organization. From 2015-2019, Dr. Abraham served as the Director of WOW Relations & Development for the WOW Center, a non-profit organization serving the IDD Community in Miami.
“The founding families and board members of Casa Familia have been relentlessly working the last five years to establish a best practice model for affordable housing serving adults with IDD that can meet the community’s needs,” said Dr. Abraham. “I am looking forward to this opportunity to work with them to help make their vision a reality.”
About The Village of Casa Familia
The Village of Casa Familia is a first of its kind affordable housing community for adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). This enriched neighborhood setting in Miami-Dade County’s Kendall area will provide a much-needed housing initiative where there currently are no such communities in South Florida serving individuals with IDD.
