Alberto I. de Cardenas

Mr. de Cardenas is currently the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary of MasTec, Inc. (NYSE:“MTZ”), a telecommunications, renewables, oil and gas, and power infrastructure construction company with revenues expected to be in the $13B range and 35,000 employees. It is recognized in Fortune magazine’s “World’s Most Admired Companies” listing and ranked as the 430th largest U.S. company in the Fortune 500 listing.

Mr. de Cardenas joined MasTec in November 2005 as the Executive Vice President and General Counsel reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.  Prior to joining MasTec, from January 2003 to November 2005, Mr. de Cardenas served as the lead counsel at Perry Ellis International (“PERY”), a leading apparel company, including as Senior Vice President and General Counsel.  Mr. de Cardenas actively participated in all of those mergers and acquisitions, and he led several sizeable acquisitions. He was also involved in all board of directors and committee matters and oversaw compliance with SEC reporting requirements.

Prior to joining PERY, Mr. de Cardenas was an Associate at Broad and Cassel and was elected to the partnership in a little over six years. While at Broad and Cassel, Mr. de Cardenas handled all stages of public and private financings representing issuers and underwriters or placement agents.  He was also involved with and led all types of mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations representing both buyers and sellers, including the acquisition and sale of public companies.  He also handled general corporate and securities matters for private and public companies and actively advised the board of directors of public companies.

Mr. de Cardenas began his career in Deloitte & Touche from September 1990 to July 1993. Mr. de Cardenas spent two and a half years in the auditing department where he audited the financial statements of public companies, governmental entities, small businesses, and financial institutions. He also worked in the tax department for five months where he prepared individual and corporate tax returns and researched various tax issues.

Mr. de Cardenas is very actively involved in the local community.  He is currently on the board of directors of several prestigious local non-profits, such as The Orange Bowl Committee, the United Way of Miami-Dade County and Easter Seals of South Florida.  He has also served as a board member of the United States Spain Council (2011–2015) and the Order of Malta Cuban Association (2013–2010), and he was a founding South Florida Advisory Board Member of BBVA Compass (2012-2021). Mr. de Cardenas is also actively involved with the Cuban American National Foundation and the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba.

Mr. de Cardenas received the Boy Scouts of America 2012 Hispanic Heritage “Good Scout” Award and was a finalist for the United Way Dorothy Shula Award for Outstanding Volunteerism.

Mr. de Cardenas earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida, his Master of Science in taxation from the Florida International University, and his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School.
